The bar chart illustrates the proportion of money spent by different age groups on four categories: clothes, groceries, electricity, and electronic devices, in America between 2000 and 2010.

Overall, spending on groceries was consistently the highest across most age groups, while electronic devices generally represented the smallest proportion. A notable trend is that older age groups tended to spend more on essential items like groceries and electricity, whereas younger people allocated larger percentages to clothes and electronics.

Specifically, the 18-29 age group spent the most on electronic devices at 36%, and also a significant 28% on clothes. These figures steadily decreased with age; for example, those aged 60 and over spent only 18% on electronics and 13% on clothes. Spending on clothes for the 30-44 group was 24%, falling to 19% for 45-59 year olds.

Conversely, spending on groceries showed a clear increase with age, starting at 22% for the youngest group and rising to 41% for those over 60. Similarly, electricity expenditure also increased from 14% (18-29 year olds) to 28% (60+ group), demonstrating a shift towards household necessities as people get older.
