Overall, the ownership of washing machines, refrigerators, and vacuum cleaners saw a significant rise over the period, while the amount of time dedicated to housework experienced a substantial decline.

In 1920, washing machine ownership was at 40%, increasing steadily to 95% by 2019. Refrigerator ownership started much lower at 5% in 1920 but caught up quickly, reaching 80% by 1980 and almost universal ownership at 99% in 2019. Vacuum cleaner ownership also grew considerably, from 30% in 1920 to 100% by the end of the period.

Conversely, the hours spent on housework per household decreased significantly. In 1920, households spent 50 hours per week on housework. This figure dropped consistently, falling to 28 hours by 1980 and further to just 12 hours weekly in 2019.
