Overall, the distance travelled by car remained significantly higher than other modes throughout the period. While most transport types saw an increase in kilometres travelled, car and bus showed a slight decline towards the end of the decade.
Car travel started at 12,000 km in 2000 and rose to a peak of 13,000 km in 2006. After this, it experienced a decrease to 12,500 km by 2010. Similarly, bus travel began at 2,200 km and reached its highest point of 2,350 km in 2006, before falling slightly to 2,280 km in 2010.
In contrast, both train and airplane travel showed consistent growth. Train journeys increased steadily from 1,500 km in 2000 to 1,800 km in 2010. Airplane travel saw the most significant rise, starting at 1,800 km and climbing to 2,600 km by the end of the period.
