The bar chart illustrates the volume of greenhouse gas emissions across five different sectors in New Zealand, measured in million tonnes of CO2 equivalent.

Overall, agriculture is by far the largest source of greenhouse gases, while waste generates the least amount of emissions among the sectors shown.

Agriculture produced 36 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent, making it the primary contributor. The energy sector was the second-largest emitter, responsible for 25 million tonnes, followed closely by transport at 19 million tonnes. These three sectors together account for a significant majority of the total emissions.

In contrast, industry generated 11 million tonnes, which is substantially lower than the top three sectors. Waste was the smallest contributor, with only 6 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent, representing a considerably smaller share compared to all other categories.
