The issue of endangered animal species and how conservation efforts should be directed is a complex one. Some argue that resources should primarily target species that offer direct benefits to humankind. I disagree with this perspective; I believe that all species deserve protection, regardless of their immediate utility to humans.

Firstly, a fundamental reason for conservation is the intrinsic value of every living creature. Each species has a right to exist and is a unique part of the natural world. Limiting conservation solely to 'useful' species reflects a narrow, human-centric view that overlooks the inherent worth of biodiversity. For example, many insects or microorganisms might not appear useful at first glance, but they play vital roles in their ecosystems.

Secondly, the interconnectedness of ecosystems means that the extinction of any species can have unforeseen and detrimental effects on the entire web of life. Even species with no obvious direct benefit to humans often contribute to the stability and health of their habitats. If one species disappears, it can disrupt food chains, affect pollination, or alter soil composition, potentially leading to a cascade of further extinctions. As a result, protecting a diverse range of species is essential for maintaining ecological balance, which ultimately benefits humans indirectly.

While it is true that conservation funds are limited, and difficult decisions must sometimes be made, focusing exclusively on human utility would be short-sighted. The long-term health of the planet, and by extension, humanity, relies on a rich and varied natural world.

In conclusion, while the practical challenges of conservation are considerable, it is important to extend our efforts beyond a purely self-serving approach. Protecting all endangered species, irrespective of their perceived usefulness, is crucial for preserving the delicate balance of nature.
