Pulp production also increased, from 45 million tonnes to 55 million tonnes over the same period, with a slight dip around 2005. Both pulp and wood maintained a generally upward trajectory.
In contrast, paper production showed a much more dramatic increase. Beginning at 30 million tonnes in 1990, it rose consistently to 62 million tonnes by 2010. Notably, paper production surpassed pulp production around 2005, and by the end of the period, it was approaching the level of wood production.
