Some people think that improving people's standard of living is always more important than protecting wild birds and animals. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Ensayo de ejemplo genérico Band 6.5

It is sometimes argued that enhancing the quality of life for people should always take precedence over safeguarding wild animals and birds. While improving human welfare is undoubtedly important, I disagree with the idea that it is always more critical than protecting natural habitats and species.

One significant reason for this view is that human living standards are fundamentally dependent on healthy ecosystems. Wild birds and animals play vital roles in maintaining ecological balance, for instance, through pollination, pest control, and nutrient cycling. If these natural processes are disrupted by the loss of species, then essential resources like clean air, fresh water, and fertile soil will be negatively affected. As a result, human health and economic stability, which are key parts of a good standard of living, would suffer.

Furthermore, there is an ethical dimension to protecting biodiversity. Many species have an intrinsic right to exist, regardless of their direct usefulness to humans. As inhabitants of this planet, people have a responsibility to be stewards of the natural world, not just exploiters. Losing species means a permanent reduction in the Earth's natural heritage, and future generations will be deprived of the richness that biodiversity offers.

In conclusion, while efforts to improve human living conditions are certainly necessary, they should not come at the expense of wildlife protection. A balanced approach that recognises the interconnectedness of human well-being and a thriving natural world is essential for sustainable progress.
