It was once predicted that with the development of technology, people would have more free time in the 21st century. To what extent do you think this prediction has come true?

It was once widely believed that technological advancements would grant people more leisure time in the 21st century. However, I largely disagree with the idea that this prediction has come true, as modern technology has often led to increased demands rather than greater freedom.

One primary reason for this is the way technology has blurred the lines between work and personal life. With smartphones and constant internet access, many employees are now expected to be available outside of traditional office hours. For example, emails and messages can be checked and responded to at any time, which means that the working day often extends into what was previously considered free time. This constant connectivity makes it difficult for individuals to truly switch off from their professional responsibilities.

Furthermore, the drive for efficiency that technology enables sometimes leads to higher expectations for productivity. While machines might perform tasks more quickly, the human element is often pushed to do more in the same amount of time. People feel pressure to keep up with new tools and platforms, which adds to their mental workload. As a result, the time saved by technological convenience is frequently filled with new obligations or the pursuit of more activities, rather than genuine relaxation.

In conclusion, despite the initial hopes, technology has largely failed to deliver on the promise of more free time for people. Instead, it has often created an environment of continuous engagement and increased expectations, making true leisure time perhaps even harder to find.
