The three pie charts illustrate the average consumption of various food categories globally, and specifically in India and China, in the year 2010.

Overall, grains formed the largest proportion of food consumption in all three regions. In contrast, dairy products and other food types consistently represented the smallest shares across the board.

Globally, grains accounted for 40% of the average diet. This figure was notably higher in India, where grains made up 60% of consumption, and also significant in China at 50%. Vegetables were the second largest category globally at 20%, but slightly less in India (18%) and China (15%). Fruit consumption was 15% globally, with China consuming 12% and India 10%.

Regarding meat consumption, the global average was 15%, which matched China's figure. However, India consumed considerably less meat, at only 5%. Dairy products constituted a small proportion everywhere, standing at 5% globally and in China, and only 4% in India. Finally, other food types made up 5% of global and Chinese consumption, dropping to 3% for India.
