The two pie charts give information about the percentages of volunteers in five different types of organisations in 2008 and 2014.
Overall, educational and environmental organisations had the highest proportion of volunteers in both years, while the arts accounted for the lowest share. There were also some noticeable changes in the ranking of these groups over time.
In both years, educational organisations represented the largest group, with 30% in 2008. However, this figure dropped to 25% in 2014, allowing environmental groups to become the top category in that year with 28%. These two sectors were clearly the most popular choices for volunteers, as each had at least a quarter of the total.
By contrast, the smallest percentages were found in healthcare, sports and the arts. Healthcare made up 20% in 2008 but decreased to 18% by 2014. Sports saw a slight rise, from 15% to 17%, and the arts remained the least common, rising only a little from 10% to 12%.
