The line chart illustrates the proportion of German people who accessed news through four different media channels over three years: 2011, 2014, and 2017.

Overall, access to news via traditional media such as television, newspapers, and radio decreased during the period shown, while the internet saw a notable increase in popularity. By 2017, the internet had become the leading source for news, surpassing all other media.

Television remained a significant source, though its usage steadily declined from 68% in 2011 to 60% in 2017. Newspapers experienced the most dramatic fall, dropping from 49% to just 29% over the six years. Similarly, radio news access also saw a decrease, starting at 36% and ending at 31% by 2017.

In contrast, the internet's popularity for news consumption rose consistently. Beginning at 42% in 2011, it increased to 54% in 2014 before reaching its peak of 61% in 2017. This made the internet the most used news platform by the end of the period, slightly ahead of television.
