By choosing accommodation and tour operators that are locally owned, for instance, visitors ensure that their money directly benefits the community rather than large international corporations. Furthermore, respecting local customs and traditions, such as appropriate dress codes or photography etiquette, helps to maintain the cultural integrity of a place, preventing it from being commodified or disrespected.
While it is true that any form of tourism inevitably places some strain on resources and infrastructure, to claim it is impossible to be a responsible tourist is an extreme position.
